Spider Circus

Let the circus begin !

Spider Circus is an open-air unique and wacky circus, whose artists are spiders.

Relying on the principle of decomposition of movement (ignition programmed in stop motion), spiders move in the air on their spiderweb, which is also the circus tent. They perform a series of acrobacies with amazing agility and cleverness. They become successively acrobats, dancers, wild animals, clown or magicians under the influence of a master of ceremonies the character is tamer, “Monsieur Loyal”, that turns the place into a great place to party.

Through their movements and actions, they form a lively bal- let: a live, funny and fascinating show. Real arachno-therapy, this work cures all our irrational fears like magic!

Technique and 3D Simulation

The SPIDER installation, prior to its concrete realization, is the subject of an animated 3D simulation of all its components, including the place in which it is registered. This step guarantees the conformity and accuracy of the result compared to the design phase. The software used is Blender (3D simulation), Ableton Live (sound creation) and Unity 3D (light programming).

In its creative process, SPIDER draws on the existing environment and includes a reflection on how elements should be fixed in its development phase. Safety and aesthetics are criteria taken into account.

3D simulations are made from the modelization of the places to be animated, and the priority for all the spiders paths invented is the simplicity of hanging devices. It is the imprint of movements that predominate as nocturnal sculptures.
Because of their lightness, the keyframes can be installed in the sites in very daring ways.
